I’m trying to play it cool, but I’m head over heels for this dish

Let’s savor a bit of whimsy and nostalgia with a classic American treat: Layered Rainbow Jello. This vibrant dessert captures the simple joys found at family gatherings and community potlucks across the heartland. With its origins rooted in the versatility of gelatin desserts that rose to popularity in the 1950s, rainbow jello artfully combines playful colors and sweet flavors for a fun retro delight.
The appeal of this eye-catching dessert lies not only in its kaleidoscopic layers but also in the anticipation it builds as each translucent hue sets one upon the other. It’s a perfect conversation piece for parties, a hit at children’s birthday celebrations, or a cheerful ending to any meal. Its customizable nature also means that with a little imagination, you can tailor it to holidays, sports team colors, or even wedding themes. Now let’s create some edible joy layer by vivid layer!

Layered Rainbow Jello, with its sweet and fruity character, pairs wonderfully with light, whipped desserts like chiffon cake or angel food cake. For a casual snack, serve a small square alongside a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. If you wish to balance its sweetness, offer it with a spread of assorted cheeses and fresh fruit, adding a delightful contrast to the palate.

Servings: 8-10

Ingredients
– 6 boxes (3 oz each) of flavored gelatin, in different colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple)
– 1 can (14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk
– 2 envelopes (0.25 oz each) of unflavored gelatin powder
– Boiling water (amount as per gelatin package instructions, typically 1 cup per flavored gelatin box)
– Cold water (amount as per gelatin package instructions, typically 1 cup per flavored gelatin box)

Directions

1. Begin by assembling all of your materials and ingredients, making sure to separate the gelatin packets by color.
2. Prepare one flavor of colored gelatin according to the package instructions, usually dissolving it in 1 cup of boiling water and then adding 1 cup of cold water. Pour the mixture into a 9×13 inch glass baking dish and place it in the refrigerator to set, which will take about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
3. Meanwhile, in a separate bowl, sprinkle the 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin over 1/4 cup of cold water and let it bloom for a few minutes. Add 3/4 cup of boiling water and stir until fully dissolved. Mix in the sweetened condensed milk, then set aside to cool.
