4. Once the first layer has set, pour 1 cup of the milk gelatin mixture over the first flavored layer, and return the dish to the refrigerator to set for another 20 to 30 minutes.
5. Repeat the process of alternating the flavored gelatin with the milk gelatin mixture until you have all six colors layered with the milk gelatin mixture in between. Ensure that the gelatin feels firm to the touch before adding the next layer.
6. After the final layer is added, chill the entire dessert for at least 2 hours to make certain it’s completely set before slicing into it.
7. To serve, cut into squares or shapes with cookie cutters for added fun.

Variations & Tips

– For an adult version, replace some of the cold water in a flavored gelatin layer with vodka or rum for a spiked treat.
– To make a lighter version, opt for low-fat sweetened condensed milk and sugar-free flavored gelatin.
– If you’re short on time, quick-set the layers by placing them in the freezer for about 15 minutes, but keep a close eye so they don’t freeze.
– Get creative with the colors for different occasions—pastels for spring, or red and green for a festive holiday dessert.
– If you have difficulty removing the jello from the dish, briefly dip the bottom of the dish in warm water to loosen it up without melting the layers.
– Finally, patience is key! Make sure each layer is fully set before adding the next to achieve those clean, perfect stripes that make this dessert such a showstopper.
