Stuffed Shells

3. Stuffing the Shells
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Now comes the fun part—stuffing the shells. Using a spoon or a small spatula, carefully fill each cooled pasta shell with the cheese mixture. Be generous with the filling, as this is what makes the dish so indulgent and satisfying. Place each stuffed shell in a single layer in a large baking dish. Ensure the shells are close enough to touch but not too crowded.
4. Assembling the Casserole
Once all the shells are stuffed and arranged in the baking dish, it’s time to assemble the casserole. Pour your favorite tomato sauce evenly over the stuffed shells, making sure each shell is generously covered. This not only adds flavor but also helps to keep the shells moist during baking. Next, sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the sauce-covered shells. This final layer will melt into a gooey, cheesy crust that makes the dish irresistible.
5. Baking the Stuffed Shells
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, allowing the shells to heat through and the cheese to melt into the sauce. After this initial baking time, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes. This allows the cheese on top to become bubbly and slightly golden, adding a deliciously crispy texture to the dish.
6. Serving the Stuffed Shells
Once the stuffed shells are baked to perfection, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This brief resting time allows the cheese to set slightly, making it easier to serve. For a finishing touch, garnish the dish with a sprinkle of fresh parsley or additional grated Parmesan cheese. Serve hot alongside garlic bread or a fresh green salad for a complete and satisfying meal.
