Nobody could stop eating this! Be careful

Directions:

  1. Spread the sauerkraut evenly on the base of your slow cooker.
  2. Place the bratwurst pieces equally spaced on top of the sauerkraut.
  3. Distribute the sliced onions, apple slices, and minced garlic evenly over the bratwurst. The combination of these flavors adds a unique twist to the dish.
  4. Add the quartered potatoes, spreading them around and between the bratwurst.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the brown sugar and caraway seeds (if using) over the top. The combination of subtle sweetness and earthy spice makes for a beautiful harmony.
  6. Pour in the broth and season with salt and pepper. Toss everything together to combine.
  7. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until the bratwurst and potatoes are tender and fully cooked.
  8. Before serving, gently mix the ingredients and taste, adjusting seasoning as needed. If you prefer a grilled appearance, you can broil the sausages after cooking.

Tips and Variations:

  • Rinse the sauerkraut under cold water if you prefer a milder version. It tones down the sharpness without diluting its essence.
  • For a milder flavor, use a milder sausage or plant-based sausage to make the dish vegetarian-friendly.
  • Add more potatoes or vegetables if you prefer a heartier dish, or substitute with snap peas or carrots for variety.
  • If you like, prepare everything the night before, so in the morning, you can simply throw it into the slow cooker, turn it on, and let the magic happen.

The night before is the best time to ready things if you’re pressed for time in the morning! With this slow-cooked Bavarian bratwurst recipe, you’ll come home to a warm and hearty meal that will delight the whole family. Enjoy!
