Cheesy Taco Casserole

Step 3: Cook the Beef

Brown the Beef:

Season 2 pounds of ground beef with a bit of salt and pepper. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the beef until it’s nicely browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. This should take about 8-10 minutes.

Drain Excess Fat:

After the beef is browned, drain any excess fat from the skillet to avoid a greasy casserole.

Add Taco Seasoning:

Stir in the packet of taco seasoning, mixing well to coat the beef evenly with the flavorful spices. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 4: Assemble the Casserole

Layer the Beef:

Spread the seasoned beef in an even layer across the bottom of your prepared baking dish. This layer forms the hearty base of the casserole.

Add Biscuit Mixture:

Gently pour the biscuit mixture over the beef layer, spreading it out evenly to cover all the beef. This will create a fluffy, golden crust as it bakes.

Step 5: Bake

Bake the Casserole:

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 22-25 minutes, or until the biscuit layer turns a lovely golden brown. Check by inserting a toothpick into the biscuit layer; it should come out clean when done.

Step 6: Add Toppings

Spread Sour Cream:

Once the casserole is baked and slightly cooled, spread 1/2 cup of sour cream over the top of the biscuit layer. This adds a creamy tang that balances the spicy taco seasoning.
