Marie Rose Sauce

Sometimes all it takes is a new sauce to really liven up a familiar recipe. But, when it comes to makings something both novel and delicious it can be hard to come up with new ideas that don’t require a ton of ingredients you don’t have. Well, here is one sauce that you can make from things you probably already have on hand. Marie Rose sauce is a popular seafood dip in the U.K., but it works well with chicken and other meats, too.

But, the genius of this sauce is that it’s really nice for burgers, sandwiches, and fries as well. And, it’s so simple to make and to customize.

Marie Rose Sauce

The foundation for this sauce is mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. But, the sauce really gets a zesty kick from the addition of lemon juice. And, you can add more kick by mixing in red pepper flakes, black pepper, and/or hot sauce. Myself personally I have been adding fresh cracked black pepper to my ketchup for years, so this is one option I’d recommended doing.

On the other hand, if you don’t like spicy dips then this sauce can easily be made without the optional ingredients that can make it hotter. Plus, unlike cocktail sauce Marie Rose sauce doesn’t have any horseradish, which overall gives it a milder flavor profile.

Not only can this sauce be made from what you already have in your kitchen, it’s also a really great way to use up the last little bits of ketchup and mayonnaise without being wasteful.
