This classic Southern side dish is a comforting and flavorful way to enjoy green beans. The combination of crispy bacon, sautéed onions, and a rich broth creates a truly satisfying dish.

Ingredients:

Fresh green beans, trimmed
1 pound

Garlic, minced
2 cloves

Chicken broth
1 cup

Salt and black pepper
To taste

Bacon, chopped
4-6 slices

Butter
2 tablespoons (optional)

Red pepper flakes
A pinch (optional)

Onion, diced
1 medium

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Trim green beans and cut into 2-3 inch pieces. Dice onion and mince garlic.
  2. Cook Bacon: Cook bacon in a skillet until crispy. Remove and set aside.
  3. Sauté Onions and Garlic: Sauté onions and garlic in bacon grease until softened.
  4. Add Green Beans: Add green beans to the skillet and sauté for 5 minutes.
  5. Simmer in Broth: Pour in chicken broth, season, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until tender.
  6. Add Butter (Optional): Add butter during the last few minutes of cooking.
  7. Finish with Bacon: Stir cooked bacon back into the skillet.
  8. Serve: Serve immediately, garnished with bacon bits or red pepper flakes if desired.
