Perfect Your Egg Cooking Technique: Simple Tips for Every Style

Cooking eggs might seem straightforward, but achieving that perfect texture and flavor can sometimes be elusive. Whether you prefer them boiled, scrambled, or poached, there are simple techniques that can elevate your egg-cooking skills from good to great. Here’s how to master the art of cooking eggs, ensuring they turn out perfectly every time.

1. Boiled Eggs
Soft-boiled Eggs: For eggs with a runny yolk and set whites, timing is crucial. Place your eggs in a pot of cold water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, lower the heat to a simmer and cook for about 4-5 minutes. Transfer the eggs to cold water to stop the cooking process immediately.

Hard-boiled Eggs: Start the same way as soft-boiled, but let the eggs simmer for about 9-12 minutes depending on how firm you like the yolk. Cooling them quickly in cold water not only stops the cooking process but also makes peeling easier.
2. Scrambled Eggs
Scrambled eggs should be light and fluffy. To achieve this, beat the eggs in a bowl and mix in a tablespoon of milk or cream for every two eggs. This will make them tender. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a pat of butter. Pour in the eggs and let them sit, undisturbed, for about 20 seconds. Then, gently stir with a spatula, pulling the eggs from the edges to the center. Continue this until the eggs are softly set and slightly runny in places. Remove from heat as they will continue to cook with the residual heat.
